When I Stopped Drinking
When I stopped drinking, which was the 7th time I tried, there were two things that were present in my life that were not present on earlier attempts: 1) A community of women I found in support gatherings who were on the same path, brave enough to share their stories; and 2) walking every day.
In short, I prioritized my physical and mental health. I found comfort, companionship, and connection with other women. Walking allowed me time to listen to podcasts, audiobooks, and process all the learning and ‘un-learnings’ that were happening. I found power in educating myself about sober living. This dramatic, empowering shift in priorities has completely changed what’s possible for me in my life—and I’m just getting started.
